The municipality has significantly strengthened its door-to-door garbage collection system, ensuring that waste generated in households is promptly picked up and brought into the formal waste management stream. Supplementing this, regular cleanliness drives have been organised across the town – most notably in areas like the Akal Dhara and Nursery Dhara, where the municipality’s teams removed accumulated waste, cleaned storm-drains and tanks, and took disinfection measures to maintain public hygiene.
In the latest Swachh Survekshan 2024, the town garnered commendable recognition within Uttarakhand, placing 18th at the state level and securing 1st place in the Champawat district rank-list. This ranking reflects the municipality’s sustained emphasis on improving cleanliness, solid-waste management and civic services. Beyond waste management, the municipality has taken tangible steps to promote social equity and infrastructure access. A marriage-hall facility has been made available at affordable rates to needy families – providing them a dignified venue without heavy expenditure.
Parallelly, the introduction of a “rain basera” (shelter for the homeless) shows the municipal body’s commitment to vulnerable sections of society, offering safe and basic accommodation during inclement weather and for those without permanent homes. Together, these achievements signal a broadening of the municipality’s role – from mere service-provider to a facilitator of inclusive civic wellbeing.
